Evesham Issues

Evesham Reorganization Meeting on June 30, 2006

At the June 30, 2006 reorganization, Councilman Schmidt outlined his 5 priorities for Evesham:

1. Good fiscal management
2. "Pay to Play" reform
3. Develop a short and long term recreation plan with the help of the community
4. Improve communications with residents
5. Remain committed to public safety with ongoing support to our police, fire and emergency services

Councilman Schmidt also explained his reasoning behind his votes cast at the reorganization. At this meeting, township board positions were appointed and township professionals were awarded one year contracts by a majority vote of Council. While Council was unanimous on some votes, Mike cast several dissenting votes based on a difference of opinion on certain business matters.

What the papers say about Evesham's budget situation...

Councilman Schmidt's 5 Point Plan to help fix Evesham's budget situation without shifting the burden further on our taxpayers.

1. Stop the practice of deferring school tax.

2. Sell off assets that have no strategic value to Evesham Township.

3. Create an Economic Development plan to deal with Evesham's tax burden in a fair and equitable manner.

4. Utilize a new approach when using our professional services; put limits on when the Township can use a professional, and set spending caps for priority use, project management or other less critical requests.

5. Consolidate our planning and zoning boards to create a new land-use board. We are close to a build out level; other townships have gone this route and it can save real dollars.

Short Term Objective in 2006

Keep our tax rate flat for our residents, while maintaining the current level of service for our taxpayers.

Long Term Objective

Set us on a path for financial stability by creating a plan for the future that builds a proactive approach to fiscal management.
